My career has evolved over the past few years from my role as Network Administrator for primary schools (implementing open source and cloud based technologies) to a Cloud Migration Architect role with one of the leading K-12 schools in NSW; and more recently to an Educational Technologist role at one of the most pedagogically innovative schools  in Melbourne. I am also a Blockchain advocate and early adopter; and I can see the potential for Blockchain Technology to revolutionise both the business world and education.

What does a Cloud Migration Architect do?

Cloud migration is the process of moving data, applications or other business elements from an organization's onsite computers to the cloud, or moving them from one cloud environment to another.

Cloud migration sometimes involves moving data or other business elements between cloud environments, which is known as cloud-to-cloud migration. The process of transitioning to a different cloud provider is known as cloud service migration. In any case, successful migration to a service provider’s environment may require the use of middle-ware  such as a cloud integration tool, to bridge any gaps be tween the vendor’s and the customer’s (or other vendor’s) technologies.

Transitioning to the cloud or between cloud environments presents the usual IT issues, but the problems are compounded by having data stored and managed remotely, by external organizations and often in multiple locations. Among these issues are special considerations for privacy, interoperability, data and application portability, data integrity, business continuity, and security.

What is eLearning?

eLearning  is the use of electronic media and information and communication technologies (ICT) in education. E-learning is broadly inclusive of all forms of educational technology in learning and teaching. eLearning is inclusive of, and is broadly synonymous with multimedia learning, technology-enhanced learning (TEL), computer-based instruction (CBI), computer managed instruction, computer-based training (CBT), computer-assisted instruction or computer-aided instruction (CAI), internet-based training (IBT), web-based training (WBT), online education, virtual education, virtual learning environments (VLE) (which are also called learning platforms), m-learning, and digital educational collaboration. These alternative names emphasize a particular aspect, component or delivery method.

What is the Blockchain?

A blockchain is a public ledger of all Bitcoin transactions that have ever been executed. It is constantly growing as ‘completed’ blocks are added to it with a new set of recordings. The blocks are added to the blockchain in a linear, chronological order. Each node (computer connected to the Bitcoin network using a client that performs the task of validating and relaying transactions) gets a copy of the blockchain, which gets downloaded automatically upon joining the Bitcoin network. The blockchain has complete information about the addresses and their balances right from the genesis block to the most recently completed block.
